Membership Categories
Do you currently participate in the podcast industry, and have for 2 years or more? 
 
Are you a student interested in podcasting?
 
Then you are eligible for membership!  All participants in the Podcast industry, whether professional or student, are welcomed as members.

Student Members
Students may apply for Student Membership in The Podcast Academy, and their membership is offered at a discount. Student Members may not vote in the awards or for the Board of Governors, but otherwise have the same member benefits. 

Regular Members
Regular Member Applicants of The Podcast Academy will be asked to select the industry role they most identify with. Applicants will ALSO be asked to select any/all roles that describe their work in podcasting during step two of the application process. 

All applicants will be asked for an industry reference.  If you know an Academy member, you will be asked to list their name, and only one reference is needed.  If you do not know a member, we will ask for the names and email addresses of two podcast industry professionals.

 IN FRONT OF THE MIC (Regular Members)

CRITERIA
Hosts, co-hosts, audio-journalist hosts and co-hosts, VO actors and performers, and those of you who both host and wear many other hats.  You must have credit on at least one (1) podcast program with a cumulative run time of three (3) hours or speaking on the microphone in at least three (3) episodes in the proceeding two (2) years.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Link to podcast program(s) or podcast episode(s), publicly available online with appropriate credits in show notes.
  • If credits are not listed online, provide links to episodes and include time stamps of appearance and/or credits.
  • You may also include a link to your Podchaser profile.

 BEHIND THE MIC (Regular Members)

Producers, Engineers, Writers, Researchers, Industry Consultants, Creative/Marketing/PR Executives, Professional Representatives, and all other Industry Professionals.  Criteria varies depending on your role.

Are you a full-time employee of
or a full-time consultant for one show or company?

CRITERIA
Either c
redit on at least one (1) podcast program with a cumulative run time of three (3) hours in the preceding two (2) years.

Or employment by one or more podcast monetization, attribution, analytics, research, media, production, network, listening app/platform, audio transcription or hosting distribution company for at least two (2) years.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Link to podcast program(s) or podcast episode(s)  publicly available online with appropriate credits in show notes.
  • If credits are not listed online, provide links to episodes and include time stamps of appearance and/or credits.

OR

  • A link to your LinkedIn profile and/or a website listing your roles/services.

Are you an industry consultant with multiple clients?

CRITERIA
Client work/roster is comprised of a majority of podcast industry clientele (e.g., clients are podcast industry professionals who currently meet the applicable requirements for membership).

DOCUMENTATION

  • List of key podcast industry clients.

AND

  • A link to your LinkedIn profile and/or website listing your roles/services.


 INDUSTRY JOURNALIST/REPORTER (Regular Members)


Are you an industry journalist who covers podcasting?

CRITERIA
Writer, newsletter publisher, or contributor on at least 10 podcast-related articles, publications or newsletters published in print or online in the preceding two (2) years.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Links to, or clippings of, 10 articles where you are credited

 

Notes On Regular Membership
Requirements for credits must be met within the two (2) years preceding one's application for membership. All members will be approved or disapproved by the Board of Governors based on these qualifications and must re-qualify every five (5) years.  Members must conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner and adhere to the policies of the organization.

 
 STUDENT MEMBERSHIP 

CRITERIA
Member must be an actively enrolled student.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Proof of active enrollment in a college program can be met with a college ID card, college fee slip, or prior semester mark sheet.  
  • AND applicant must provide two letters (or email copies) of recommendation from Academy members or podcast industry peers. (sample letter) 

Notes On Student Membership
Requirements for eligibility must be met within the last (1) year preceding one's application for membership. All members will be approved or disapproved by the Board of Governors based on these qualifications and must re-qualify annually.  Members must conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner and adhere to the policies of the organization.
